80th Anniversary Vision

Isaiah 61:3

“…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor.”

Growing Deeper After 80 Years

Meetinghouse Church was founded 80 years ago on what was formerly an oak savannah. And like the Oak Tree,

  • We have grown deep roots
  • We have extended our branches outward
  • We have multiplied through scattered seeds

We have seen that in:

  • Families being formed and sustained in their faith
  • Ministries and nonprofits that have grown out of this community
  • Partnerships and transformation extending globally

Biblical Foundation

Now as we look towards the next 80 years, we seek to draw from this story, and continue to grow with Jesus towards our shared future. When Jesus began his public ministry, He read from Isaiah 61—a passage describing the coming Messiah.

It speaks of:

  • good news for the poor
  • healing for the brokenhearted
  • freedom for the captive
  • comfort for those who mourn
  • beauty instead of ashes
  • praise instead of despair

Those restored are called: “oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord.”

Our goal is not to simply preserve what exists, but to continue what God has already started-
Not out of attachment to buildings or programs, but from a belief that God is cultivating a new thing – that God can take our lives and human-sized offerings, these small seeds, and transform us and our gifts to be the good news Isaiah described: healing, freedom, comfort, beauty and praise- not just for us, but for the whole world.
We trust that small faithful seeds become something strong enough to offer shelter, stability, life, and joy to all people.

A Shared Story

For 80 years, this community has reflected that vision.
Like an oak:

  • roots grown deep
  • branches extended outward
  • seeds multiplied over time

Oaks of Righteousness – Still Being Planted

This anniversary is not only a reflection on the past, but a continuation of a long-standing pattern:

  • lives restored
  • people rooted
  • growth extending beyond what is immediately visible

Oaks of righteousness—still being planted.
